IPC J-STD-001

IPC-J-STD-001

The IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has emerged as a major authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. The IPC J-STD-001 is recognised worldwide as the sole industry-consensus standard for soldering processes and materials. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections, including the use of lead-free solders. The requirements for all three classes of products are included. There are full colour illustrations to provide clarity.

The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry-consensus requirements for a broad range of electronic products. The IPC J-STD-001 fully complements the IPC-A-610.

Why earn IPC J-STD-001 certification?

The training and certification has immediate recognition, legitimacy and value throughout the electronics industry. When successfully completed this course you will be awarded a serialized IPC Certificate, which aids in the traceability of the program. The training will increase your quality of workmanship. The course is modular and combines both theory and hands-on elements, which will provide the students with the knowledge and skills to produce IPC acceptable solder connections. The hands-on exercises are valuable, as they reinforce the theoretical concepts learned. After successfully completing the program you will have the Title as CIS (Certified IPC Specialist).

Content

In CIS (Certified IPC Specialist) training module 1, Open & Closed book is pre-requisite for all modules. The training consists of the following modules.

  • Module 1 :  Introduction/Overview of J-STD-001E  - No Workmanship
  • Module 2 :  Wires & Terminals  – Workmanship
  • Module 3 :  Through-Hole Technology  - Workmanship
  • Module 4 :  Surface Mount Technology  - Workmanship
  • Module 5 :  Inspection Methodology  - No Workmanship

Who should attend IPC J-STD-001 Application Specialist training?

It is relevant to anyone with assembly tasks, duties and functions, who will be responsible for the quality and the reliability of electronic and electrical assemblies (Maintenance technicians, quality & Inspection personnel).  The practical elements of this course make it particularly suited to assembly operators, production supervisors and process engineers.

How long is the duration of the Course?

The duration of the course is 5 days.

How the IPC J-STD-001 Certification Program works.

  • Each Application Specialist training attendee will be provided with student training material, for the use during the training class.
  • IPC Trainer will show slide shows on the specific modules and discuss in detail the specification. After each Module a written open book examination will follow.
  • You will have a question, which will consist of 4 possible answers. The student must choose the correct one.
  • Each participant that writes the exams must have 70% for each Module to pass.
  • Module 1 Open book and Closed book is mandatory and must be successfully completed before an individual can be certified in any of the other Modules 2 – 5.
  • Individuals who fail any written exam will be afforded one opportunity to re-assess after a study period not less than 24 hours.
  • After all the exams have been written the students will go on doing the practical part of the course. After practicing each individual doing the training will solder components to a PCB for exams.
  • Candidates who pass the exams will receive an IPC Certificate of Proficiency, indicating the areas of the IPC J-STD-001 that were successfully completed.
  • Certification is only valid for 2 years and then a re-certification exam must be written before the expiry date (Same course material will be used).
  • If candidate have not had any previous hands-on soldering, experience and are unfamiliar with the handling of electronic assemblies or with component installation or orientation, we recommend that he/she do the basic soldering course and the IPC-A-610 Certification training first. This is that he/she acquires the basics & best practices of soldering, prior to the IPC J-STD-001 training course.
